A Tribute to Elizabeth Taylor

Elizabeth Taylor

Elizabeth Taylor celebrates her 77th birthday in February, 2009, and during most of those 77 years, since her early teens, she has been a "movie star" in every sense of the word.

Liz has experienced everything that goes with that description, including six dozen films (from great to not-so-great), Oscar nominations and wins, scandals and tragedies, multiple marriages, substance abuse and medical problems, and high-profile charitable work.

But in addition to those unique violet eyes and that little girl voice, the true movie fan remembers her primarily for those performances that she made hers and hers alone, many of which come to mind with the repeating of only a single name: Velvet, Maggie, Martha, Cleopatra. Even her own nickname, Liz, is pretty much her property; there's only one "Liz." (Sorry, Liz Claiborne!)

Born in London to American parents, Elizabeth was an actress from the age of 10 onward. Unlike many child stars, she never had an awkward stage, and seemed to go directly from child roles to leading lady in a short period of time. In fact, there were only a little over two decades between National Velvet and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf. But what a couple of decades they were!

Rather than go into more detail here, I'll direct you to some of the many, many pages on the Web with content relating to Liz Taylor, including tribute sites, reviews, photos, posters, and more. Please note that this article has four pages, so don't forget to click below for Parts II, III, and IV.

Part I: Introduction

Part II: Elizabeth Taylor Tributes and Other Pages

Part III: Movie Reviews & Where to Find Her Movies

Part IV: Photos, Art, and Posters
