Adelle Jameson Tilton: Last question (which of course means the biggest one of all). Tell me about love and soulmates. When we talked you seemed to know all about that feeling when you talked about Dorothy. How, in your opinion, can people find their soulmate, not settle for second best and therefore stablize our society through the foundation of marriage and family.

Buddy Ebsen: When we met, Dorothy and I were both recovering from previous marriages. Neither of us were thinking of going through that again. Then as we came to know each other, we both became aware that another quality was emerging.

A mysterious tenacious clinging sense unidentified in our experience. Like two predetermined elements responding to a power that lay within them. The unquenchable demands felt by each to be with the other.

For want of a better description we called that result: soulmate.

It cannot be pursued. It just has to happen and we recognized it. One day we kissed and I had the feeling "I am home". It has lasted twenty years and since we are still together I can only assume Dorothy feels the same power. These sentiments are better expressed in my book Kelly's Quest.
