Everybody has a "Back to School" special, so why not this site? After all, everybody who attends grade school, secondary school, or college will be studying subjects that involve films, whether it's the films themselves, or subjects portrayed in films. So I thought it would be fun to put together a suggested list of movies that you might want to purchase or rent to get yourself or your sons and daughters ready for the new school year. The list is updated regularly, with many helpful suggestions from visitors to this site. I have also linked each title to a page where you can purchase it at a good price, either in VHS or DVD, whichever is newest.
I've divided the recommendations into four categories: Filmed Versions of Classic Literature, Films About Famous People, Films About History, and The Important Films (those which do not fit into any of the other three categories). Most are "classic" films, in the sense that they were made more than 20 years ago, though there are a few more recent movies.
