A Tribute to Lauren Bacall

Lauren Bacall

When she was barely 20 years old and made her screen debut in To Have and Have Not, Lauren Bacall looked and acted much older than her years, and now, at age 81 (as this is being updated in September, 2005), she looks and acts much younger than her years. She continues to appear in films, with one released and two others in production in 2005.

Who could ask for more?

But there is more, of course. Betty Joan knocked 'em dead right out of the gate at the age of 19, and became a star with her first film. She is probably best known among classic fans for her appearances in the films opposite Bogart, whom she married and stayed with until his death in 1957.

"Betty" won Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe trophies, as well as an Oscar nomination, for her role in Barbra Streisand's remake of The Mirror Has Two Faces (1996). She also won Tony Awards for her Broadway appearances in "Applause" and "Woman of the Year."

It's great to see Miss Bacall working regularly again in the movies. She appeared in only one film between 1996 and 1999, "Le Jour et la nuit," with Alain Delon, and on TV in a two-part episode of "Chicago Hope."

We wish her a happy birthday, and offer a collection of tribute sites and pages with reviews, photos, posters, and more. Please note that this article has four pages, so don't forget to click below for Parts II, III, and IV.
