After two weeks of voting (poll carried out in October, 1997), the results of the Classic Movies Favorite Directors Poll are in! Here are your favorite directors of the classic movies era, as determined by your votes. Only one vote per email address was allowed (votes from invalid email addresses were tossed out), and each person could vote for up to three people. Duplicate votes were not counted.
While we are not revealing the total number of votes for any director, please note that Alfred
Hitchcock won quite handily, but that the margins separating all the choices are rather slim. We're listing the Top 10 vote-getters (alphabetized in cases of ties), with links to their bio pages on the Internet Movie Database or our tribute article, if any. Many also have links on our Classic Directors Subject list. Almost every classic director received at least one vote, so if your favorite isn't here (and you didn't vote), be assured that at least one other person voted for him or her!
Thanks again to everybody who voted.
