Q. Was Sergio Leone ever considered as director of "The Godfather"?

A. Sergio Leone turned down the directing job because he wanted to make his own gangster film. He did that, with Once Upon a Time in America (1984). He later claimed he regretted his decision, but he did make a pretty interesting film. Francis Ford Coppola directed, of course. It was the first of four acclaimed films that he directed, though he also received awards for producing and screenwriting.
