Cult Movies and "B" Films

Classic films that are so bad, they're good; so awful, they're wonderful.

The Astounding B Monster!
Billing itself as "the offbeat film authority," this colorful site celebrates the greatest bad movies of all time. "A good guide to bad movies," as one reviewer put it. Includes sci-fi, horror, and cult films.

The Bad Movie Report
For a site that is dedicated to "bad" movies, this one is certainly well-written -- or at least fun to read. Not just a list of movies with photos, this site includes sections like "Tricks of the Trade," with tips on how to make a bad movie.

Badmovies.org
Dozens of reviews, photos, lots of sound files, and video clips from "some of the finest B-movies ever to disgrace film," in their words. Lots of fun, but rated "R" in places, due to random acts of violence, exposed internal organs, and some foul language.

Brian's Drive-In Theater
An enthusiastic and extensive tribute to "B" movies and drive-in favorites, including Hercules, Tarzan, beach party films, low-budget sci-fi, and "B" westerns. Plus obituaries and feature pages on many of the mostly forgotten stars of the 50s, 60s, and 70s.

Canuxploitation
Billed as a "complete guide to Canadian B-film," this site offers a guide to the underside of Canada's relatively young (but growing) feature film industry, with particular emphasis on some of the things that make Canadian b-movies unique.

Ronnie Cramer's Cult Film Site
A major source of cult and "B" movies on VHS tape, presented by an interesting fellow who is himself a director, responsible for such films as Back Street Jane (1989) and Even Hitler Had a Girlfriend (1992). Some material is for adults only.

Exploitation Retrospect
If you like horror, gore, exploitation and drive-in movies, and you've got your tongue lodged firmly in your cheek most of the time, you'll enjoy this "journal of junk culture and fringe media," in business since 1986, initially as a print publication, and run by Dan Taylor. You'll also enjoy reviews contributed by Stately Wayne Manor in Manor on Movies.

Giants and Girls
In its own words, this site is "dedicated to all those prehistoric giants, pinhead mutants, bug-eyed aliens, and other monsters chasing (and sometimes catching) those beautiful girls!" For mature adults only, or at least for adults.

William Girdler.com
A nicely-done site dedicated to the director, writer, and composer who made 9 films in the late 70s, both horror and "blaxploitation," before dying accidentally in 1978. Sometimes compared to Ed Wood.

The Invisible Hand of Alan Smithee
Dedicated to the preservation of the works of "Alan Smithee" (the name once assigned by the Directors Guild to films disavowed by the original director), as well as films made by "every hack director, every talentless writer, every inept producer" and based on the notion that "there will always be an 'Alan Smithee'." Great fun.

The Jabootu Dimension
"This site," says the introduction, "is devoted to the savoring of films at the very bottom of the Cinematic Bell Curve." No, they're not talking about terrible blockbusters, but the kind of stuff that's part of the Ed Wood universe. Unique, weird, and very bad.

Killer B's Video Guide
From Impermanent Press, D. Scott Apel presents a list of "The 237 Best Movies On Video You've (Probably) Never Seen." The bad news is that it's a book, not a Web database.

Old B-Movies
Information about B-movies, production companies, and performers, plus reproductions of lobby cards and streaming video of trailers.

Prison Flicks
Dedicated to women-in-prison movies, prison dramas, prison action, prison comedies, prison musicals, and prisoner-of-war pictures. Includes reviews and articles, many focused on the "classics" of the genre.

Razor Reel - A look into the "weird and wonderful world" of exploitation movies and television shows, this is part of BillyBop, a roots music site out of Belgium. Look for material on campy, gory, adult, sleazy or musical films from the early days, rock & roll and teenage juvenile movies from the fifties, Sci-Fi flicks or pasta porn from the sixties, Euro thrash from the seventies, eighties slashers, etc. Not for the kiddies.

Score, Baby! - A guide to cult movie soundtracks of the 60s, 70s, and beyond, with reviews of a wide variety of music, along with LP cover photos and more. Most MP3 samples have been removed, but you can contact the Webmaster if there's something you want to hear.

SoSo Cinema
Subtitled "Not Too Bad, Not Too Good," this site celebrates bad movies and cult films, with a movie, photo, video capture, record album, and bad/good girl of the month.

The Spinning Image
A movie review site with a special emphasis on cult films (their site logo includes a closeup from The Evil Dead). You'll also find articles, news, polls, a forum, a newsletter, and more.

The Stinkers
Billed as Hollywood's Annual Academy Awards Parody, this site will make you laugh with its ballot of the year's worst movies, reviews of bad films, links to other "worst" lists, and more.

Stomp Tokyo
A treasure trove of reviews of entertaining bad flicks, from this site which boats of celebrating "six years of B-movies, Godzilla, and video cheese."

Terriblemovies.com
Established by a group of B-movie fans in 1995, the site fell into disuse and was resurrected in 1999, then redesigned in July, 2000. You'll find lots of reviews and articles about the movies to love to hate and hate to love.
