Classic Movies

Movies So-Z

A listing of the best Web sites devoted to the greatest classic movies and series of all time, alphabetical from So through Z.

"The Coming And Passing Of Song Of The South"
Film Threat's David M. Korn explains at length why Song of the South will never be released, while Gone With the Wind continues to be shown.

Sorry, Wrong Number (1948)
The excellent 1948 thriller starring Barbara Stanwyck and Burt Lancaster. In a supporting role was Jimmy Hunt, whose son Ron created this site. (It hasn't been updated recently, though.)

Spinal Tap Lives
A site devoted to one of the funniest documentary satires ever made, 1984's This is Spinal Tap, about a band of lovable losers who all play with their amps turned up to 11. The site includes loads of material, including transcripts, multi-media, and items for sale.

The Star Wars Collectors Archive
If you're a Star Wars fan or a movie memorabilia collector, don't miss this site from Gus Lopez and fellow editors. It's a "virtual museum" of images from private collections from all over the world.

Sunset Boulevard
This tribute to the classic 1950 William Holden/Gloria Swanson film directed by Billy Wilder includes an illustrated story, cast list with mini biographies, and the fascinating tale of the film's production.

Tarzan of the Internet
A nice Tarzan site, with separate sections focusing on the movies, the books, plus collections of book covers, posters, and more. It's been expanded since we last visited.

Meet the Other "Tiger-Woman"!
Blair Whipple created his "Lenta Shane, the Tiger-Woman" character in 1998, got published in 2004, then that same year discovered the 1944 movie serial The Tiger-Woman. He bought a DVD and enjoyed it so much that he decided to create a fan site. A real treat for fans of the old serials.

The Time Machine
A site by Don Brockway devoted to the George Pal film based on the H.G. Wells novel, as well as to the book itself.

To Sir With Love (1967)
A "photo album" of screen captures from the film, with captions describing the action.

Travis 76, A Taxi Driver Page
A moody design for a site dedicated to a moody film, Martin Scorsese's masterpiece, Taxi Driver, starring Robert DeNiro and Jodie Foster. Technical information, trivia, cast list, photos, posters, links, and a single wav file. Can you guess which one? Can you guess which one? Can you...

The Unsinkable Molly Brown
This page on the real woman who inspired the musical is part of JohnShepler.com, now in a new location.

A Tribute to Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo
An extensive tribute to Hitchcock's 1957 film, including pages on the director, the music, the posters, and more, from the Widescreen Cinema site. There doesn't seem to be a way to skip the intro, but it's enjoyable if you're a Vertigo fan.

The Vertigo Web Pages
Created by Andrew Morrison, this site contains a long plot description, bibliography, and links list. The forum wasn't working when we visited.

Vertigo: Rare Photographs
A small but interesting collection of photos taken near San Francisco during the shooting of Hitchcock's Jimmy Stewart/Kim Novak thriller in March, 1957, plus links to other sites.

The War of the Worlds Web Site
This great-looking site covers it all -- the book, the film, the Orson Welles radio broadcast, the music, the TV series, the games, the merchandise and more.

There's No Place Like Oz
This tribute to The Wizard of Oz includes a photo gallery with sound files, a complete cast list, including the names of all the Munchkins, FAQs and trivia, a discussion of the special effects in the film, sound files, collectibles, links, and more.

The Wizard of Oz Online
Andy's Web Creation presents a variety of materials, activities, and information related to the beloved family film. Not updated recently.

The Wizard of Oz Site From Piglet Press
Even though this isn't strictly a movie site, we really like its charming look (be sure to fill out the survey and tell them not to jazz it up too much), and the fact that it contains more information -- or links to information -- than you could ever want about The Wizard of Oz (1939), both on film and on paper.

Wonderful Wizard of Oz Collectibles
It's amazing how many officially licensed items you can find that relate to this favorite classic film, and they seem to have them all here -- everything from bottle stoppers and earrings to jackets and t-shirts.
