Classic Actor And Actress Collections

Web sites featuring collections of favorite stars from the classic movies era.

Classic Movie Star Tributes
The heart of this site is a constantly-growing list of extensive tributes to the greatest actors, actresses, and directors of the Golden Age.

Doug Stickney's Silver Screen Siren Website Best of the Net
Do you have a crush on a movie starlet from the 30s who's old enough to be your grandmother (if she's still with us at all)? I do, and apparently so does Doug Stickney. Lucky for us!

The Acting Divas
The actresses section of a very cool site called "Divas" that celebrates women in many areas of human endeavor. The lineup includes Joan Crawford, Bette Davis, Rita Hayworth, Marlene Dietrich, and others from both the classic and modern era. Each section includes "her story," trivia, gallery, quotes, etc.

American Legends
Includes excellent profiles of actors, authors, musicians, even politicians. Of interest to our fans would be the sections on James Dean, Montgomery Clift, Marilyn Monroe, Carole Lombard, and Jack Warner.

Arabella & Co.
Dedicated "to the legendary stars of cinema’s golden age," Arabella's very nice site offers a series of tributes to stars including Tyrone Power, Jeanette MacDonald & Nelson Eddy, James Cagney, Ingrid Bergman, Robert Mitchum, and Barbara Stanwyck.

Blonde Bimbos of the Big Screen
From Jean Harlow to Marilyn Monroe. Another entertaining essay by Stu Kobak of Films on Disc.

Bombshells.com
Dawn Marie's site was listed here for many years as "Clickable Bombshells." But it was completely redesigned and updated; the "Clickable" section is just one part of it. Look for special sections on Betty Grable and Jayne Mansfield, plus Glamour Galleries for Marilyn Monroe, Jane Russell, Sophia Loren, Mae West and more.

Celebrity Calendar - A Passing Look
From WebCastro, a calendar that lists the dates when classic stars passed away. For example, did you know that Charlie Chaplin, W.C. Fields, and Joan Blondell all died on Christmas?

CinemaSirens.com
Stuart Young's site is devoted to "love goddesses, bombshells, glamour gals, sex sirens, or just legendary ladies," including Ann-Margret, Brigitte Bardot, Claudia Cardinale, Elizabeth Taylor, Elke Sommer, Gina Lollobrigida, Jayne Mansfield, and more.

Classic Actresses
Darryl and his partners offer profiles of more than two dozen classic actresses, from Ava to Vivien, plus sections on classic films, a quiz, links list, and a column of classic movie news on the home page.

Classic British Cinema
A series of profiles of English-born actors, actresses, and directors, part of a nice-looking Web site for this UK dealer of English 20th Century Collectables, including advertising tins, film memorabilia and vintage clothing.

The Classic Movie Connection
A site created by a high school student from Illinois who got bored with his "Titanic" site and decided to create something as a tribute to his favorite classic stars. Audrey Hepburn was the first one, but there apparently were never any others.

Moviestarmania
A collection of tributes by Gina Ward to classic stars such as Cary Grant, Grant's leading ladies, Tony Curtis, Jeff Chandler, Myrna Loy, and Claudette Colbert.

CMG Worldwide
The agency that represents a number of classic stars (in addition to other celebrities and sports figures) has been building a nice collection of tribute sites over the past few years. This page has a list of all their clients, including Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Ingrid Bergman, and many more.

Double Feature Dolls
As they say, while this is a salute to "classic" actresses, the emphasis here is on sex appeal, so don't be surprised to find Mamie Van Doran, Yvonne De Carlo and Allison Hayes featured over Hepburn, Davis, and Stanwyck. Here, "the Double Feature girls reign supreme." (Some adult content.)

From "I Do" to "I'll Sue"
One of the newest "little extras" from Divas-The Site -- a collection of "hubby" tributes for their favorite actresses, led by record-holders Liz and Lana, of course.

Glamour Girls of the Silver Screen
Individual timelines for dozens of actresses of the 40s & 50s. Information comes mostly from gossip reports by Sheila Graham, Hedda Hopper, Louella Parsons, and Sidney Skolsky, so much of it can be taken with a grain of salt. In other words, it's lots of fun!

Great Character Actors
From the realm of King Spud ("the kind of the couch potatoes"), here's a tribute to hundreds of the greatest character actors in film and TV history, from Joss Ackland to Anthony Zerbe, all with a photo, brief bio, and selected filmography.

Greatest Film Star Roles
If you like Tim Dirks' Greatest Films site, you'll love this section of it, examining the definitive roles of some of the greatest Hollywood stars.

The Irish Mafia Boy's Club
Another entertaining site devoted to the informal group of actors whom Hollywood columnist Sidney Skolsky dubbed the "Irish Mafia."

Last Link on the Left: Final Credits
This section of Stuart Bayens' new mega-site featuring links to popular culture sites (still under construction but growing by the day) contains an amazing collection of well-written obituaries for people who have contributed to modern culture in some significant way.

The Little Rascals.net
Little Rascals fans will find everything they're looking for here, including a history, photos, filmography, a message board, and more.

The Heustess Family Website
Most of this site, put together by Mack Heustess of South Carolina, is dedicated to The Little Rascals, with a nice photo gallery (including some animations), plus selections of streaming clips, eight complete episodes, sound bytes, and music from the films.

Lynn's Classic Actors Page Best of the Net
Lynn Dougherty's tributes to her favorite classic actors, from Charles Boyer to Franchot Tone.

Lynn's Classic Actresses Page Best of the Net
Lynn Dougherty's favorite actresses also have their own very nice pages, all accessible from this site.

Movieactors.com
Superstars of the 30s.

Movieactors.com
Superstars of the 40s.

Movieactors.com
Superstars of the 50s.

Movieactors.com
Superstars of the 60s.

Movieactors.com
Superstars of the 70s.

Mug Shots
Described as the home page for forgotten silent comics, this site offers biographies of actors from Monty Banks to Larry Semon, as well as profiles of studios such as Bulls Eye (the only one as yet completed).

Northern Stars
Subtitled "Canadians in the Movies," this site focuses on actors, actresses, and directors who hail from the Great North, going back to Deanna Durbin and other early movers and shakers.

notstarring.com
If you've ever wondered which stars did NOT end up with plum roles (and why), you'll find this new site fascinating. (And you may even be able to contribute some content or verify some of the newer entries.) Includes both current and classic stars.

Phillip Oliver's Web Sites Directory
I have links to all of Phillip's excellent individual tribute sites in various places on Classic Movies.org, but here's a page with all of them gathered together, including Jennifer Jones, Greta Garbo, Gloria Swanson, Deborah Kerr, Dorothy Dandridge, Greer Garson, Ernest Borgnine, and Jessica Lange, plus a couple of other non-movie sites I know you'll enjoy.

Ravin' Maven of Classic Film Best of the Net
Here are tributes to stars like Judy Garland, James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart and Bette Davis, with the unmistakable Julie Stowe design touch.

Reeljewels.com
Ginny Sayre created this site as a tribute to the stars of classic musicals, including Judy Garland, Ginger Rogers, Jeanette MacDonald, Nelson Eddy, and many more, with biographies, filmographies, photos, etc. for each star, plus dozens of "honorary Reeljewels."

Silent Ladies and Gents
David Pearson's excellent collection of photos from the silent era. A searchable database of thousands of images of hundreds of actors and actresses from the silent film era, from Renee Adoree to Loretta Young, and from Bronco Billy Anderson to Ben Wilson.

Silent Movie Personalities
Single pages on ten people from the silent film era, including William S. Hart and Fritz Lang, created by E.H. Larson. Well done, though not updated recently.

Sixtiescinema.com
Web site for Tom Lisanti's books, including Fantasy Femmes of Sixties Cinema: Interviews with 20 Actresses from Biker, Beach, and Elvis Movies and Film Fatales: Women in Espionage Films & Television, 1962 to 1973. You can purchase the books or just check out some of the profiles of actresses like Pamela Tiffin, Diane McBain, Lana Wood, and Deanna Lund.

The Stars of Hollywood Forever
Web site for the book by Tony Luke Scott, a comprehensive compilation of biographies of nearly 1,000 early contributors to the development of the film industry, many of them buried in unmarked graves. You can order the book or check of the site's extensive resources.

TriBaby
Tricia Richter is called "TriBaby" because she competes in triathalons. As if that wasn't enough, she's also created tributes to several classic stars, including Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich, Audrey Hepburn, Katharine Hepburn, Louise Brooks, and Cary Grant. Scroll down to the bottom of this page for links.

Unsung Divas of the Silent Screen
Last week we featured one of the tributes from this site. Here's a link to the home page, where you'll find full tributes to Pauline Frederick, Norma Talmadge, Clara Kimball Young, and Alice Joyce, as well as single pages with brief bios and links lists for almost two dozen more of the great female stars of the silent era.

Women of Italian Films
A tribute to Italian silent film actresses, a section of David Pearson's excellent Silent Ladies site, with extensive contributions from Marco Gaetani, of Tuscany, Italy.
