Paul NewmanThe Paul Newman Collection - In the role that made him a star, Paul Newman is middleweight boxing champ Rocky Graziano in Robert Wise's Oscar-winning biodrama, Somebody up There Likes Me (1956). Steve McQueen co-stars. Newman portrays notorious outlaw Billy the Kid in director Arthur Penn's first feature, The Left-Handed Gun (1958). An ambitious lawyer's (Newman) dark past comes back to haunt him while defending a war buddy who's been accused of murder, in The Young Philadelphians (1959). With Barbara Rush, Robert Vaughn. Newman plays Ross MacDonald's cool private eye in Harper(1966) and again in The Drowning Pool (1975) which follows the detective to New Orleans where he tries to find out who's been blackmailing an ex-girlfriend (Joanne Woodward). An easy-going cowpoke (Newman) and his hard-drinking pardner (Lee Marvin) agree to move 200 steer from Mexico to the U.S. to get out of debt, in Pocket Money (1972). Finally, The Mackintosh Man (1973) stars Newman as a British agent sent to infiltrate a communist group secretly led by a powerful politician (James Mason). 13 hrs. total on six discs. Forbidden PlanetForbidden Planet (Ultimate Collector's Edition) (1956) - Milestone science-fiction adventure, loosely based on Shakespeare's "The Tempest." A rescue ship's crew locates the survivors of an interplanetary expedition, but an eons-old force of great power and evil may destroy them all. Leslie Nielsen, Anne Francis, Walter Pidgeon, and Robby the Robot star. Also included is "The Invisible Boy" (1957), with Robby returning as the newly built playmate for a scientist's brilliant, neglected young son. Trouble erupts when the father's experimental super-computer goes berserk and takes control of the robot. Richard Eyer, Philip Abbott, Diane Brewster star. 187 min. total on two discs. Miracle On 34th StreetMiracle On 34th Street (Special Edition) (1947) - Perennial holiday film classic relates the tale of "Kris Kringle," a Macy's department store Santa Claus claiming to be the genuine article--much to the consternation of a humbugging store exec who is raising her daughter not to believe in fantasy. But when the gift-giver is declared insane, a good-hearted lawyer fights to prove that the man truly is jolly old St. Nicholas. Edmund Gwenn (in an Academy Award-winning performance), Maureen O'Hara, Natalie Wood, and John Payne star.
